Tor is a software project that helps you to defend against traffic analysis, a form of network surveillance that threatens personal freedom and privacy, commercial confidentiality and interpersonal relations and security of the state. Tor protects you by bouncing your communication around a distributed network relay run by volunteers around the world: it prevents someone watching your Internet connection learning sites you visit, and it prevents sites learning you visit your physical location. Tor works with most of your existing applications, including Web browsers, IM clients, remote login and other applications based on TCP.
